This complete remodel of a Gold Coast, high rise condominium was originally begun by another general contractor. OBrien Construction rescued the project while it was still in its demolition phase which had run for over four months. Porcelain flooring provides beauty and function for the kitchen and master bath. The new, custom cabinetry in the kitchen is crafted from quartered grey elm finished in a horizontal grain veneer. Clean lines define the space and contemporary lighting provides high tech accents to complement the articulating flat screen television. A Sub-Zero refrigerator and Dornbracht plumbing fixtures complete the kitchen and solidify the built in appearance, making the kitchen truly space efficient. In the living room a panoramic view of Lake Michigan provides the backdrop for a floating, custom milled entertainment center. The focal point of the room, the entertainment center is made of mahogany and incorporates a sliding panel system of designer glass which obscures the large, flat-panel television when closed. The integrated lighting within the floating cabinet highlights three-dimensional artwork on the shelving. Unobtrusive but distinctive, the wet bar was milled out of red oak and several objectile diffusion, maple wood panels were applied to vary the texture of the exotic veneers. Hardwood flooring meanders throughout the unit to provide a grounded feel for living spaces. The recessed lighting and the decorative accent lighting in the foyer and hallway lead the way to the private areas of the unit and provide a venue for original artwork and one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture. The tight integration of the major trades continues in the office where floating shelves and custom casework create an efficient workspace. The powder room had been gutted and glass tile installed to surround the tub in a romantic color palette of dusky oranges, wine reds, and glittering golds. The guest bedroom is a peaceful retreat with its own refresher, complete with custom vanity cabinet and limestone shower with glass enclosure. A haven for the weary, the master bedroom has a floating dresser which reestablishes the airy feel begun in the living room. Opposite, the bed is flanked by more custom millwork, providing ample storage while taking up a minimum of floor space. The master closet is a room unto itself, complete with custom millwork housing shelving, cubby holes, clothes racks and drawers with custom dividers, to provide a place for everything. Crossing the line from simply functional to elegantly pampered, the master bath welcomes visitors with a row of mirrors, each flanked by vertical wall sconces. They sit above a vanity cabinet comprised of three distinct stations of varying height and depth creating a visual rhythm pleasing to the eye, enhancing the spa-like feel of the room. An amply sized shower enclosure comprised of large module, natural stone houses body sprays and a personal hand shower. The luxuriant soaking tub is nestled next to a curved wall, tiled in ⅜ x ⅜, honey onyx glass to complete this sybaritic retreat. Lighting, HVAC, Plumbing, Tile, Wood Flooring, Millwork, and Carpentry all come together to create a contemporary blend of city life and cozy personal retreat. Extensive coordination of subcontractors and close supervision was required to attain the superb level of finish necessary for this high-rise condo in the Gold Coast.
